Why This September Will Be Historic
BLUF: September has always been National Service Dog Month, but September 2025 will be different. This year, Charles County makes history by launching America’s First Veterans Service Dog Memorial on September 20th – transforming awareness into permanent recognition.
???? What Makes National Service Dog Month Special
Every September, we celebrate National Service Dog Month – a time dedicated to honoring the vital role service dogs play in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities. This month-long observance raises awareness about the crucial support these incredible working dogs provide, the intensive training they undergo, and the legal protections they have under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).But September 2025 is unprecedented. While communities nationwide celebrate service dogs through awareness campaigns and educational events, Charles County is taking action that will resonate for generations – we’re launching America’s First Veterans Service Dog Memorial.
????️ From Awareness to Action: Making History
???? Recognition and Appreciation Beyond Words
National Service Dog Month traditionally acknowledges the dedication and hard work of service dogs and their handlers. This September 20th, we’re creating permanent recognition through America’s first memorial dedicated specifically to veteran service dog partnerships. The Veterans Service Dog Memorial (VSDM) represents more than awareness – it’s lasting tribute to the four-legged heroes who continue serving our veterans long after they’ve returned home.
